Older man volunteer with young boy SRI Volunteers mission is to improve the quality of life in Washington County, Jamestown, East and West Greenwich Rhode Island. They do this by providing active adults with a broad range of meaningful and appropriate volunteer service opportunities at over 130 sites. The volunteers support the efforts of these sites in a number of ways. They provide independent living assistance to the elderly and other individuals in need, thus helping them to remain in their own homes.

SRIV has entered into a long-term partnership with the Town of Charlestown to enhance the Community Center in Ninigret Park with the goal of increasing volunteerism throughout the county and beyond and engaging individuals in active lifestyles and service. As a result, SRIV will have a home in Charlestown for the next 20 years at least!
So RI volunteers distribute water

Volunteers distribute much needed fresh water after the 2010 floods.

Southern Rhode Island Volunteers recently changed its volunteer policy to include all ages; for 29 years volunteering had been focused on older citizens but in 2010 they really launched intergenerational volunteer opportunities. Anyone 13 years of age and over can volunteer with the organization independently; if children under 13 wish to volunteer they are welcome with a parent or guardian.
