The Childhood Lead Action Project works to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in RI through advocacy, community-based education and parent support. The Childhood Lead Action Project is the only organization in RI to work exclusively on the issue of childhood lead poisoning, the number one environmental health threat to Rhode Island’s children.

The Childhood Lead Action Project has designed and implemented a wide range of nationally recognized community-based education and advocacy programs, including:

  • Immigrant, refugee, and tenant outreach that communicates lead-hazard awareness
  • The Lead-Safe RI! Training Program, an initiative offering bi-lingual classes on lead-safe work practices to contractors, workers and property owners
  • Property owner outreach that connects owners to abatement resources and prevention information
  • The Get the Lead Out Coalition, a vehicle uniting parents of lead poisoned children, professionals and community activists to work for public policy change on the state and local levels

Due to our achievements in lead poisoning prevention, the Childhood Lead Action Project has received several awards from local and national organizations including:

  • the National Indoor Environmental Health and Technologies Conference
  • the Rhode Island Department of Health
  • the Health Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of RI.
